March 12, 2012POTTSBORO, Texas – East Central University’s Lady Tigers are tied for 12th place after one round of the Texoma Chevy Dealers Lion Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce, at the par-72 Tanglewood Resort Course on Monday.
Tarleton State leads the 20-team field with a score of 312, which is six shots better than second-place West Texas A&M, which finished the opening round with a 318. Central Oklahoma is third at 320, followed by Arkansas-Fort Smith (323), Newman (329), Arkansas Tech (329), Oklahoma Christian (335), host Texas A&M-Commerce (338), Tyler Junior College (339) and Cameron (343).
Harding is in 11th place with a 349 while ECU and Southwest Minnesota State are tied for 12th as each carved out a 351. Park is in 14th place at 356, followed by Rogers State (357), Winona State (358), Texas A&M-Kingsville (360), Southwestern Oklahoma State (361), St. Mary’s (370) and Ouachita Baptist (377).
Emily Wharton posted ECU’s best score of the day with an 84 (42-42 nine-hole totals), which is tied for 29th place. Teammate Lindsey Lunceford is tied for 50th with an 88 (41-47).
Also for the Lady Tigers, Shay Shaw is tied for 62nd with an 89 (43-46), Ashley Cardwell is tied for 69th with a 90 (47-43) and Sara Posey is tied for 109th with a 103 (52-51).
Arkansas Tech’s Rebecka Surtevall (36-37) and Central Oklahoma’s Chaney Uhles (37-36) are tied for the lead as each fired a 1-over-par 73. They have a one-shot lead over Tarleton State’s Jacqueline Lau, who shot a 2-over 74 (37-37). Four others are four strokes back at 78.
There are 113 golfers competing in the event.
The second and final round will begin on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
