Lady Tiger golfers settle for 14th place finish

GRANBURY, Texas – The East Central University women’s golf team settled for 14th place as the two-day, two-round Doc Housewright Invitational wrapped up on Tuesday at the par-72 Harbor Lakes Country Club.

Host Tarleton State won the tournament with a score of 589, followed by Midwestern State (593), St. Edward’s (594), Western Texas Community College (607), Cameron (615), Western Washington (617), Northeastern State (624), Academy of Art (633), Angelo State (635), St. Martin’s University (636), Incarnate Word (642), Southwestern Oklahoma State (656), Texas A&M-Commerce (656) and ECU (696).

The Lady Tigers’ best finish came from freshman Lindsey Lunceford, who tied for 51st place with a 167 (82 on Monday and 85 on Tuesday). Teammate Emily Wharton tied for 61st with a 170, after back-to-back rounds of 85. Ashley Cardwell tied for 65th with a 173 (87-86), Ilissa Riley-Jaggers tied for 70th with a 186 (96-90) and Sara Posey was 72nd with a 205 (106-99).

The individual champion was Tarleton State’s Sharon Lau, who was 2-under for the event after posting consecutive scores of 71. She edged out Wallis Spears, of St. Edward’s, in a playoff after Spears recorded a 73 on Monday and a 3-under-par 69 on Tuesday to also finish 2-under. Jacqueline Lau, also of Tarleton State, ended at even-par for the two rounds after firing a 75 and 69.
